         Methyl tert - butyl ether (MTBE) is a colorless and transparent liquid with a slight ether odor. It is easily soluble in water and most organic solvents, has a boiling point of about 55°C, and is highly volatile. It is an ether compound with a high octane number and low toxicity, mainly used as a gasoline additive and also an important organic synthesis intermediate.
 
Environmental and Safety Properties
 
1.It has low toxicity but certain volatility. Long - term exposure may irritate the respiratory tract and skin.
