1. Industrial (Main Applications)
Polyester (PTT) Synthesis: It is a key monomer in the production of PTT. PTT is used in the production of high-performance textiles such as carpets and clothing.
Organic Synthesis Intermediate: It is used in the synthesis of various chemicals, such as solvents and plasticizers. 2. Cosmetics and Personal Care Products (Emerging and High-End Applications):
Humectant: 1,3-Propanediol has excellent hygroscopic properties, helping the skin retain moisture. It is often added to skincare products such as creams and serums.
Solvent: It effectively dissolves other ingredients.
Skin Feel Modifier: Compared to 1,2-propylene glycol, 1,3-propylene glycol has a lighter, less sticky feel, is milder, and has low irritation. This makes it an excellent alternative to traditional alcohols (such as propylene glycol and butylene glycol) in high-end skincare products, providing a lighter, more comfortable feel. It is particularly suitable for oily skin or those who dislike stickiness.
Preservative Enhancer: While its own preservative capabilities are not strong, it can assist the preservative system by reducing water activity.
