Boric acid is a colorless crystal. It decomposes in the air and can be dehydrated at 400-500ºC to form anhydrous sodium tetaborate. It melts into a glassy substance at 878ºC. Because the melt contains acidic oxide B2O3, it can dissolve metal oxides.
 

1. It can be used to manufacture various boron compounds, including elemental boron, borates, metaborates, metal boron compounds, organic boron compounds, etc;
2. Used in the glass industry to manufacture optical glass, heat-resistant and high-strength glass, as well as special glass and glass fibers such as microcrystalline glass that enhance ultraviolet light transmittance and improve glass transparency;
3. In enamel and ceramic products, borax can make the surface smooth and prevent the enamel from falling off easily;
4. Used in the metallurgical industry to produce high-strength boron steel, high hardness heat-resistant alloy steel, and special steel resistant to three acid corrosion, as well as deoxidizers, solubilizers, and purifiers for non-ferrous smelting;
5. Used in the mechanical industry for surface boronizing to improve hardness and metal welding;
6. Used for boron doping, capacitors, etc. in the electronics industry
7. It can be used as trace element fertilizer and insecticide in agriculture;
