Stearyl alcohol (also known as octadecyl alcohol or 1-octadecanol) is an organic compound classified as a fatty alcohol with the formula CH3(CH2)16CH2OH. It takes the form of white granules or flakes, which are insoluble in water. It has a wide range of uses as an ingredient in lubricants, resins, perfumes, and cosmetics. It is used as an emollient, emulsifier, and thickener in ointments.







1. It can be used as an additive for oil-based fracturing fluid instead of hexadecanol. Stearyl alcohol can be used in the production of Pingjia, resin and synthetic rubber, color film couplers, etc.
2. Used as chromatographic reagent. It is also used as surfactant and lubricant and for organic synthesis.
3. It can also be used as raw materials for manufacturing defoamer, flotation agent, softener, rice field heat preservation agent, water surface covering agent, and medical ointment.
