Phosphorous Acid is an important inorganic acid, belonging to a binary strong acid with strong reducing properties and chemical reactivity. It has extensive applications in fields such as chemical engineering, medicine, and agriculture, and is a key raw material for the preparation of organic phosphorus compounds and phosphorus-based additives.
It is usually a white crystalline powder or colorless transparent crystals, with a garlic-like smell. It is hygroscopic and readily absorbs moisture in the air, gradually oxidizing to phosphoric acid. It is soluble in water. At 20℃, its solubility is approximately 42.5g/100mL. The aqueous solution is acidic. It can also be dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol and glycerol, but does not dissolve in non-polar solvents like ether and benzene.
