Ethylene glycol (chemical formula: C2H6O2; molecular weight: 62.07), commonly known as glycol, is also called 1,2-ethanediol. It is the simplest aliphatic diol.
 
Under normal conditions, it is a colorless, transparent, and viscous liquid with a sweet taste and hygroscopicity. Its key physical properties are as follows:
 
  • Melting point: -12.9°C
  • Boiling point: 197.3°C
  • Flash point: 111°C
  • Density: 1.13 g/ml
 
It is slightly soluble in almost insoluble in benzene and its homologs, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and petroleum ether. However, it is miscible with water, lower aliphatic alcohols, glycerol, acetic acid, acetone, other similar ketones, aldehydes, pyridine, and so on.
 
It can be oxidized to acids when in contact with strong oxidizing agents. When heated in the presence of catalysts (such as manganese dioxide, aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, or sulfuric acid), it can undergo intramolecular or intermolecular dehydration to form acetaldehyde, glycol acetal, or dioxane. Additionally, it can react with alkali metals or alkaline earth metals to form alkoxides.
Application
 

  Industrial Grade Mono Ethylene Glycol with Low Price for Antifreeze

 1. Used for production of polyester, moisture absorbent, plasticizer, surfactant, synthetic fiber, cosmetics etc. ;

 2. Used as refrigerant, condensing agent, refrigerating agent for industrial cooling, as well as raw materials for synthetic polyester, and resin, etc.;

 3. Solvent and thinner for printing ink, industrial cleaning agent, coating, printing and dyeing etc.;  intermediates; making chemical fiber dyes and so on.

 4. Used as textile auxiliaries, as materials for desulfurizing agents in fertilizers and oil refining.
