Bismuth iodide has application potential in the field of optics and can be used to fabricate infrared optical devices. - It is also used as an electrolyte for the preparation of efficient solid-state lithium-ion batteries. -bismuth iodide can also be used as a catalyst in some organic synthesis reactions. -Bismuth iodide can be prepared by thermal decomposition of bismuth iodide trihydrate (BiI3·3H2O) or by reaction of bismuth iodide with iodine. -Iodine can be heated with bismuth iodide under the protection of nitrogen, and the product can be extracted by solvent. -Bismuth iodide is generally not toxic to humans, but dust inhalation or prolonged exposure should be avoided
