Product Description

Unilong Supply Polycaprolactone Pellets Bulk CAS 24980-41-4 Polycaprolactone PCL for 3D Printing Field

Product Description:

Polycaprolactone (PCL) is a semi crystalline polymer, which is a chemically synthesized biochemicalbook degradable polymer. Its structural repeating unit is blended with five nonpolar methylene CH2 starch and other substances to produce a complete biodegradable material. The melting point of polycaprolactone is 59 to 64°C, and the glass transition temperature is -60°C. Low molecular weight, colorless crystalline solid with waxy texture. At the same time, it has good biocompatibility, biodegradability, compatibility, high crystallinity and low melting point.
Polycaprolactone (PCL) is a semi-crystalline aliphatic polyester with excellent biocompatibility, degradability and thermal processing performance. Its unique physical and chemical properties make it demonstrate irreplaceable application value in the fields of 3D printing, disposable food packaging and medical plates, and it has become one of the key materials promoting the green and precise development of multiple industries.

Application:
I. 3D Printing (Additive Manufacturing) Field: Highly adaptable degradable consumables

PCL has become the mainstream degradable material in the 3D printing field due to its low melting point (about 60ºC), good melt fluidity, and tight interlayer bonding. It is particularly suitable for technologies such as fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and stereolithography. Its specific applications include

Prototype and parts manufacturing: It is used for printing test prototypes of mechanical parts, architectural miniature models, electronic equipment shell blanks, etc. The printed parts are not prone to warping, have a smooth surface, and the "disposable prototypes" can be degraded after use, reducing material waste.

Biomedical printing: As a core material for tissue engineering scaffolds, it can print bone, cartilage, and skin repair scaffolds by adjusting the molecular weight or combining hydroxyapatite (HA), collagen, etc. - the scaffolds gradually degrade in the body, providing support for new tissues, and are suitable for medical scenarios such as bone defect repair and skin regeneration.

Education and Creative Applications: The low melting point property lowers the threshold for printing equipment, making it suitable for creating teaching models (such as human organs, chemical molecular structures), creative figurines, and deformable toy accessories, with a balance of safety and plasticity.

Ii. Environmental protection packaging field: Degradable solutions to replace traditional plastics

In the field of disposable packaging and eco-friendly materials, PCL has become a key material for addressing "white pollution" due to its complete biodegradability and food contact safety. Its main applications are:

Food packaging film/bag: After being blended and modified with starch and polylactic acid (PLA), it can be made into fresh food preservation film and cooked food packaging bags. It can degrade into CO2 and water within 6 to 12 months in soil/compost environments, and does not react with food oils or acidic substances, meeting food contact safety standards such as FDA.

Disposable containers and tableware: Combined with plant fibers (straw, bamboo fiber), they are made into lunch boxes, plates, knives and forks through injection molding/hot pressing. They can withstand hot food at 60-80ºC and are degradable after use, making them suitable for high-frequency disposable scenarios such as takeout and fast food.

Industrial cushioning packaging: Made into degradable cushioning foam or packaging lining, it is used for the transportation protection of electronic products and precision parts. There is no environmental residue after disposal, and it can replace the traditional non-degradable EPS foam.

Iii. Biomedical Field: Safe and controllable medical materials

The biocompatibility and controllable degradation rate of PCL make it widely used in the medical field. Its core applications include:

Medical repair materials: After being compounded with hydroxyapatite and tricalcium phosphate, they are made into bone defect repair boards and alveolar bone reconstruction scaffules. After implantation, they provide support for bone regeneration. The degradation rate matches the healing cycle of human tissues, avoiding secondary surgeries.

Medical protective materials: Made into wall protective panels for operating rooms and isolation layers for medical devices, they have bacterial/virus barrier properties, can withstand repeated wiping with alcohol and chlorine-containing disinfectants, and can be degraded after disposal, reducing the pressure on medical waste. Some products also incorporate antibacterial components such as silver ions to enhance their long-lasting antibacterial capacity.

Iv. Other Fields: Functional Extension and Scenario Adaptation

In addition to the above-mentioned core areas, PCL also plays a role in multiple scenarios:

Coatings and adhesives: As a film-forming agent for coatings, it enhances the flexibility and weather resistance of the coating, and is suitable for surface protection of metals and plastics. As a degradable adhesive, it is used for bonding paper packaging and bio-based materials, avoiding the chemical residues of traditional adhesives.

Agricultural materials: Made into degradable agricultural films, they are used for crop seedling raising, water and nutrient retention. After degradation, they can be transformed into soil organic matter, avoiding soil pollution caused by residual films. Or it can be made into a slow-release fertilizer carrier to control the rate of nutrient release and improve the utilization rate of fertilizers;

Composite material modifiers: Blended with materials such as polyolefins and polyester, they improve their flexibility and impact strength, making them suitable for scenarios with high requirements for material performance, such as automotive interior parts and home appliance shells.
