1,3-Propan e sultone serves as an additive in lithium - ion battery electrolytes. By adding 1,3 - propan e sultone, it can improve the battery's cycling stability and safety. It helps in suppressing the decomposition of the electrolyte and reduces gas evolution, thereby enhancing the overall performance of the battery.
1,3-Propan e sultone is an intermediate for synthesizing sulfonate - type surfactants. After ring - opening, it reacts with amines or alcohols to form surfactants that possess excellent wetting and emulsifying properties. These surfactants find applications in detergents, cosmetics, and other personal care products.
