Used as an anti-amoebic drug. It belongs to the halogenated 8-hydroxyquinoline class. This type of anti-amoebic drug exerts an anti-amoebic effect by inhibiting intestinal symbiotic bacteria, and is effective against amoebic dysentery, but has no effect on extraintestinal amoeba. In recent years, foreign reports have shown that this type of drug can cause subacute spinal optic neuropathy, so the drug has been banned in Japan and the United States.
