Phospho rous acid is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula H3O3P. It appears as colorless to pale yellow crystalline solid (in the form of ice - like crystals). It is readily soluble in water and ethanol. It is slowly oxidized to orthophosph oric acid in the air. When heated to 180 °C, it decomposes into orthophosph oric acid . It is mainly used as a raw material for manufacturing plastic stabilizers and is also used in the production of synthetic fibers and phosphites.
Phospho rous acid is mainly used as a reducing agent and a whitening agent for nylon. It is also used as a raw material for phosphites, an intermediate for pesticides, and a raw material for organophosphorus water treatment chemicals.
