Limonene has three isomers. Natural limonene is optically active, including L - limonene and D - limonene. However, synthetic limonene is not optically active and is racemic limonene. In aromatic organic chemistry, as is relatively common on Chemicalbook, there are mainly L - limonene and D - limonene. D - limonene mainly exists in plant essential oils such as lemon oil, tangerine oil, and orange oil, with a relatively sweet taste; L - limonene mainly exists in peppermint oil and pine needle oil, with a relatively fresh smell.
