Butyl glycol ether is one of the important derivatives of ethylene oxide (EO). It is a green and environmentally friendly solvent, a colorless liquid with a molecular weight of 118.17 and a distillation range of 163 to 174ºC. It is not volatile, has a relative density of 0.9019, a boiling point of 171.1ºC, and a flash point of 60.5ºC. It is toxic and miscible with water and hydrocarbon solvents of flaxseed oil. It has extremely strong dissolving power for synthetic rubber and is suitable for use as a solvent for both natural and synthetic rubber. It is also used as a solvent for rosin, shellac, shell rosin, indene resin, ethyl fiber and nitrocellulose.
