Cr12MoV is a ledeburite cold work tool steel improved from Cr12 with added Mo and V. It has better hardenability, hardness, wear resistance, and lower heat treatment distortion .

This steel is ideal for heavy-load, bulk production, and complex-shaped cold molds . It performs well in quenching, tempering, and wear resistance , making it suitable for large and complex dies .

Typical applications include punching and trimming dies, piping dies, deep-drawing molds, circular saws, gauges, thread rolling dies, and other cold work tools .

Cr12MoV combines high hardness, strength, and durability , making it the preferred choice for demanding tooling environments .

Heat Treatment Specifications:

Quenching: Heat the Cr12MoV steel to 950-1000°C, then rapidly cool it in oil.

Tempering: After quenching at 1020°C, temper the steel at 200°C for 2 hours.

Hardness:

  • Annealed Hardness: The hardness after annealing is 255-207HB (14-25HRC), with an indentation diameter of 3.8-4.2mm.

  • Quenched Hardness: The hardness after quenching is ≥60HRC, providing high hardness and wear resistance.
