Piperazine is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H10N2. It is a colorless crystal with the smell of ammonia and is highly hygroscopic. The melting point of piperazine is 109.6ºC, the boiling point is 148.5ºC, and the molecular weight is 86.14. It is easily soluble in water, methanol, and ethanol, slightly soluble in benzene and ether, and is corrosive. It is flammable when exposed to open flames and high temperatures, and releases toxic nitrogen oxide gas when it burns and decomposes.
