Product Description

Colorless or slightly yellow liquid or crystal. Melting point is 22.5ºC, boiling point is 235ºC, 81-81.5ºC (307Pa), relative density is 0.9883 (20/4ºC), refractive index is 1.56145, flash point is 90ºC. It can be miscible with chloroform and ether, soluble in benzene, ethyl acetate, acetone, carbon disulfide, petroleum ether and alcohol, and insoluble in water. It has a sweet taste and a special aroma of fennel.

Applications
In food, especially in the flavoring of pastries, it is used as fennel essence and licorice essence; it is also used in beverages and is widely used in the essences of apricots, quinces, bayberries, etc., as well as in toothpaste and mouthwash. In addition, anethole is also used as a flavoring agent and odor masking agent for drugs, a fragrance for cosmetics and soap, a raw material for synthetic drugs, and a sensitizer for color photography. As a drug, anethole has a certain therapeutic effect on leukopenia caused by chemotherapy or radiotherapy and leukopenia caused by other reasons. Anethole accounts for a relatively large proportion of consumption as a production of anisaldehyde. In the presence of sulfanilic acid, anethole (or essential oil containing anethole) is oxidized by ozone, nitric acid, potassium permanganate or red vitriol sulfuric acid solution to obtain anisaldehyde (p-methoxybenzaldehyde).
