Applications

Lubricant; emulsifier; thickener. This product can be applied in cosmetics and topical preparations. In topical preparations, cetostearyl alcohol increases the viscosity of w/o and o/w emulsions. It can stabilize emulsions and have a common emulsifying effect, so it can reduce the amount of surfactant required to form stable emulsions. Cetostearyl alcohol is also used in the preparation of non-aqueous creams and lip balms. It is reported that cetostearyl alcohol can be used to reduce the release of water-soluble drugs. When combined with surfactants, it can form emulsions with very complex microstructures, including liquid crystals, lamellar structures and gel phases.
