Piroctone Olamine (PO or OCTOPIROX®) is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that has become a star ingredient in scalp care and problem skin formulations for its highly effective anti-dandruff, mildly antibacterial, and micro-ecological properties in skincare products.

1.Precision Anti-Dandruff & Scalp Conditioning

It specifically inhibits the squalene epoxidase activity of Malassezia (the main fungus that causes dandruff), destroying its cell membrane structure, with an anti-dandruff effect 1.5 times that of ZPT (zinc pyrithione). It regulates scalp 5α-reductase activity, reduces DHT production and lowers oil secretion from the source.

2.Gentle & Safe & Low Irritation
EU SCCS evaluates its safety as 1A, no risk of teratogenicity or carcinogenicity, maximum concentration of 1.5% for rinse-off products and 0.5% for residual products. pH adaptable to a wide range of irritation is far lower than that of traditional anti-dandruff agents, suitable for use on dyed and permed hair or eczema scalp.

3.Micro-ecological balance & barrier repair
Selectively inhibit harmful bacteria while promoting the proliferation of beneficial bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis to maintain the balance of scalp flora. By up-regulating the expression of tight junction proteins, it strengthens the scalp barrier function and reduces itching and sensitivity.
