Product Description

Acetylacetone is also known as diacetyl methane or pentadienone. It is a derivative of acetone, with the molecular formula CH3COCH2COCH3. It is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid. It is usually a mixture of two interconverting isomers, namely enol form and ketone form, which are in a dynamic equilibrium. The enol form forms hydrogen bonds within the molecule, and the ketone form accounts for approximately 18% while the enol form accounts for 82% in the mixture. When the petroleum ether solution of the mixture is cooled to -78ºC, the enol form precipitates as a solid, separating the two forms; when the enol form returns to room temperature, it automatically re-establishes the above equilibrium state.

Acetylacetone can also serve as a catalyst for petroleum cracking, hydrogenation reactions and carbonylation reactions, an oxidizing agent for oxygen, etc. It can be used to remove metal oxides from porous solids and for treating polypropylene catalysts, etc.
