3-Methoxy-1-propanol is a colorless and transparent liquid at normal temperature and pressure. It can be dissolved in common organic solvents including low-polarity and non-polar organic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide, methanol, dichloromethane, and ethyl acetate. In addition, 3-methoxy-1-propanol can be miscible with water.

3-Methoxy-1-propanol can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, a medicinal chemical reagent, and can be applied to the modification and derivatization of drug molecules and bioactive molecules. For example, 3-methoxy-1-propanol can be used for the synthesis of drug molecule rabeprazole. Rabeprazole is suitable for peptic ulcer, reflux esophagitis and Zhuo-Ai syndrome, and has inhibitory effects on basal gastric acid and gastric acid secretion caused by stimulation.
