AISI S136 Cold Drawn Stainless Tool Steel for Plastic Mold

S136 steel is a high-end mirror-finish mold steel known for its excellent corrosion resistance and superior polishability , achieving surface roughness as low as Ra ≤ 0.01 μm . With a typical hardness of 50-54 HRC , it is ideal for applications requiring high surface quality and dimensional precision.

S136 is especially suitable for:

  • Precision optical molds

  • Transparent or corrosive plastic molding (e.g. PVC, acetate)

  • Medical, food-grade, and cosmetic packaging molds

Smelting and Manufacture Method: LF+VD+Forged
Delivery Condition: Annealed
Delivery hardness: ≤225 HBS


 

Heat treatment

1. Annealing

In a protected state, heat up to 780 ºC and then cool to 650 ºC in the furnace at a rate of 10 ºC per hour. Then, cool in air.

2. Stress elimination

After roughing, it must be heated to 650 ºC, both hot for 2 hours, slowly cooling to 500 ºC, and then cooling in the air.

3. Hardened

Preheating Temperature: 600-850 ºC

Quenching temperature: 980-1050 ºC
