Isophorone, also known as "1,1,3-trimethylcyclohexene ketone", scientific name 3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one, is a six membered ring α,β- Unsaturated ketone, chemical formula C9H14O, is a colorless to yellow volatile liquid with characteristic smell (camphor/mint flavor). It is naturally found in cranberries. It is insoluble in water and soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone and other organic solvents. See the conversion of light into dimers. It is oxidized to 4,4,6-trimethyl-1,2-cyclohexanedione in air.


Isophorone  is used as a solvent for paints, inks, coatings, gums, resins, nitro fibers and chemical synthesis intermediates, especially for vinyl resins.
It is mainly used in pesticide, coating and can coating. It is a high boiling solvent for nitro paint and synthetic resin coatings. As a special coating thinner. Soluble phenolic resin and epoxy resin are mixed with methyl isobutyl ketone.
